EMDR is a psychotherapeutic method that is highly effective at resolving both recent and past trauma. This type of therapy supports the body’s natural ability to heal from traumatic events by integrating the part of the brain that stores traumatic memories, often in a fragmented way, with the part of the brain that makes sense of those memories. In use since 1989, numerous research studies have shown that EMDR is highly effective at permanently resolving symptoms (i.e. PTSD, anxiety, etc) stemming from trauma. When used in a targeted way, we often need only 4-6 sessions depending on the severity and the duration of the traumatic events. I offer EMDR to clients who want to do short-term, targeted therapy, as well as an adjunct to longer-term therapy.
