Couples therapy is one of my specialty areas. While intimate relationship can be one of the most satisfying areas of our life, it can also be excruciatingly painful. Both our “best” self and our “worst” self often appear in our closest relationships. When we love someone, there is a lot at stake emotionally, and, at some basic level, we often find ourselves fighting to hold on to that love or to ensure that our deepest needs are met—often not in very productive ways.
I work with couples to repair past injuries with each other, increase the effectiveness of their communication, learn how to navigate conflict more successfully, and ultimately begin to feel safer, more trusting, and more connected to one another. I also support couples to deepen their intimacy with each other and begin to risk revealing the truth of who they are to the other. This process is transformative and often improves relationships in all aspects of one’s life, including with co-workers, friends, and family.
Some of my areas of focus are:
- Communication
- LGBTQ couples
- Parents of transgender/gender expansive children
- Trust/emotional intimacy
- Extra-relationship affairs
- Infertility
- Polyamory
- Trauma
